“Sanguškų (SAHN-goosh-koo) Paradise Gardens were a rare oasis in Vilnius. This place was called Paradise Gardens because it was a place of exceptional and special beauty - in contrast to the rest of the city, which, at the time, lacked a sewerage system and thus frequently experienced foul smells and filth, suffering from wars, fires, plagues, and other diseases.”
